Age Old Question

Well after six straight wins the Caps lost in overtime to the Islanders 4-3. He got hit by a puck during the third period and walked off the ice in obvious pain, nothing serious I hope. Ovie did manage to score one goal in the first period bringing up his total points to 23. His "arch rival" , Sidney Crosby, is trying to play catch-up too, racking in up 3 goals on Oct. 28th and 2 assists on the Oct. 30th game. Speaking of Crosby here is my "two cents" on this NHL rivalry!

Who should be the face of the NHL? Sidney Crosby is a handsome kid, with a great smile and a squeaky clean persona to match. No doubt he is talented, but he comes across as a brat in some of his interviews. Ovie is rugged, with an impish gap toothed simile that is not ashamed of his love of fast cars, clubs and women. He's got talent and passion. He his often criticized, even by Crosby for his passion. Crosby is the boy you bring home to mom, Ovie is the boy you bring home, but straight to your room! Ovie with his gap toothed smile, piercing eyes and ruggedness represent a hockey player to me. So, I might be biased, but I believe he is the face of the NHL.

Next game is Nov. 1st against the Blue Jackets at home.

Ovie Back on Top

Ovie is back on top, knocking Kopi off the top!

He scored two points last night in the first quarter, and one assist. Caps beat the Thrasher 4-3.

Ovie's point total 22 points! His best start of his career!

As for Kopi, he was scoreless at last night's game versus the Canucks. The Canucks wound up winning the game in a sudden death shoot out.

I attended last night's game and it was obvious that L.A. is NOT a hockey town! The Dodgers and Lakers own this town. The energy at those games is amazing, I am not a huge baseball fan, but I love going to Dodger games for the atmosphere. The crowd at the Kings game could be described as lethargic, some die hards here and there, so-so attendance. The Sparks (WBNA) have a pretty low attendance, but the energy is there,Staples center get's loud at those games! At Kings games? Not so much! The only exciting games I have seen are against the Ducks. I was hoping that Kopi's success would make some news in the L.A. sports news, but nothing. I honestly can not wait to go the Caps to see how a hockey town experience's a game!

Caps play the Islanders today at home.

Kings play the Coyotes in Phoenix Nov. 2.

Caps 4, Flyers 2

Electrifying game courtesy of Ovie last night with a great supporting cast (Semin, Theodore and Backstrom). Two goals scored by Ovie, as well as some hits! Very physical game!

It is truly a joy to watch this man play, he exhibits unbridled passion and joy. The crowd at Verizon Center was going absolutely nuts! I cant wait to be a part of that crowd on November 7th!

Ovie has moved up to number two in NHL points list with 19 points, still trying to catch up to Kopi!

Kings play the Sharks tonite! Caps play the Kovalchuk-less Thrashers on the 29th.

Keeping up With Kopi

...And the points leader in the NHL is.....

Ovie? No

Crosby? Not even close!

Malkin? Think again!!!!

Its...................

Anze Kopitar from the L.A. Kings!

Yes, that is right! 21 points, Ovie has been knocked down to 3 with 17 points. This is a pleasant surprise!

Living in L.A. I have always supported my L.A. teams Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, hell, even the lowly Clippers at times have my support. Angels and Ducks? That's Anaheim, I wont go there...lol

Season after season the Kings have royally sucked! They havent made the play offs in seven seasons. It is nice to see them do well, it's nice to see a guy like Kopi come out of no where and boost his team. I predict a break through year!

In Ovie news, they play the Flyers tonite, but I believe I have mentioned that on the previous post. He left practice early on Monday due to a broken skate! We will see if Ovie catches up with Kopi!

No Goals, but Still Newsworthy

Another Caps win against the NY Islanders (3-2 in OT), another goal-less game for Ovie. He did, however, provide one assist and some entertainment during the third period where he hurled himself like a puck into the net after Aucoin's goal. Goals were scored by Green, Aucoin and Laich, again another team effort!

Even though he has failed to score any actual goals, Ovie manages to stay in the news. He was fined $2500 for "slew-footing" Atlanta Thrashers player Rich Peverley during Thursday nights game. "Slew footing" is when another player kicks another players skate from behind. Don Cherry the host of "Hockey Night Live" was also taking smack about his dirty play and how Ovie will get his soon! Whatever!!!!!

Next game should be interesting against the Phildelphia Flyers on Oct. 27. Game will be televised 7pm EST on Versus. Will be interesting to see if Pronger and Ovie go at it!

Caps Win, Kings win

Ovie didnt score , but the Caps won 5-4, racking up 3 points in 88 seconds during the 2nd period. Goals were scored by Fehr, Giroux, Shultz, Bradley and Clark, positive sign that Ovie doesnt have to carry the team and that it was a team effort.

Ovie managed to to grab a tripping penalty and was called a "dirty player" by one of the announcers. It's hockey people! Rumor has it he was playing with the flu, hence his missing all four of his shots on goal and no hits. Could be the flu or he couldve been having an "off day". Flu makes sense since his good friend Alexander Semin is out with the flu. If that's the case, feel better soon,Ovie.

I attended the Kings v. Stars game last night with the same results as the Caps v. Thrashers game, Kings won 5-4. Mad props to Kings Center Anze Kopitar for his first career hat trick! He is truly "chasing Ovie" because he is number two behind Ovie in NHL scoring! Total of eight goals, eight assists, 16 points! I will keep you all update on this guy!! Hell, maybe, I'll even start a new blog! "Keeping up with Kopi?"

Something to hold me over until Thursday's Game

This is the video that sucked me in! It's a must see for all Ovie fans old and new. Truly captures his spirit.

Caps play division rivals the Atlanta Thrashers tomorrow night. Kovalchuk from the Thrashers is on fire, going to be interesting to see two friends (Ovie and Kovalchuk) go at it. Show be a great match! I will watch most of it, then I am off to see my home team, the Kings, battle the Stars. Should be a great hockey night!

The Two Sasha's

Alexanders in Europe our often nick named Sasha. Here's a link to an article I wrote on Sasha Vujacic's site(Laker Guard, Kobe's back-up) comparing Ovie and Sasha's similar upbringing and passion for thier respective sports! There were some haters thinking I was off topic and teeny bopperish but they were silenced thanks to a special group of ladies I call Vujachicks!

People need to understand that I am a "fan" plain and simple, I am not out to change the world. I just admire certain players, no matter what team they are on!

Hat Trick!

Well sort of! I guess goals in "sudden death" do not count for actual goals? Caps v. Preds game was a real nail biter. Ovie scored two points during the first period. The second period saw the Preds score two points. Game went into sudden death overtime where Ovie once again scored! Caps won 3-2, all three goals courtesy of Ovie!

It was disturbing to see the Caps hit the ground running then lose steam, but glad that they were able to recover. Varlamov did an excellent job, despite the fact he allowed those two goals by the Preds in almost rapid succession. He really redeemed himself during the shootout by allowing no goals.

Caps are now 4-2-2, knocked down to second place in the Southeast by the Atlanta Thrashers. Ovie's revised stats are nine goals, seven assists, bringing up his total points to 16!

Next game is on 10/22 against the Atlanta Thrashers. How many points will he rack up?

The Stats So Far

He is leading the NHL in points! Seven assists, seven goals= 14 points!!!!!!

On October 15th he finally can say that he has scored against every team in the NHL when he scored two points against the San Jose Sharks!

Washington Capitals, despite a 4 game losing streak and a goalless three games by Ovie, sit on top of the NHL Southeast conference.

Caps play the Predators tonite at 7pm EST at home.

How It all Began, What Sucked Me In and Why I am here.

How does someone in L.A. start following a player on a team 2000 miles away? Here you go!

In October of 2008 I started posting on some boards called Talk Sports. There is specifically a forum called the Girlfriend Fourm. It was probably designed to speculate who the specified athlete was dating, but it has turned into something where the athlete is admired for their looks as well as talent.

At the time I was posting on the Sasha Vujacic Girlfriend forum, when another poster decided to post a picture of hockey guys. In one of those was Alexander Ovechkin wearing a beanie looking a bit like the actor Oliver Martinez. I thought he was good looking at left it at that.

A couple of months later, my younger son was watching NHL on the Fly and I instantly spot Ovechkin, this time it was not because of his looks, but because of his sheer talent and passion. I loved how he celebrated every goal like it was his last and how you can tell he genuinely loves what he does.

What sent me over the edge was that ESPN E:60 show! I got to see what a fun loving, passionate personality he has. I love how he lives his life, like he plays with "reckless abandon". After that show I was hooked!

Some may say, "Well you are just a band wagon fan" or "You just like him because he's cute" or "You are too old for this". Guys like Ovie make me feel 15 years younger and look at the lighter side of life and renew my energy to live life to the fullest. I have my husband's full support in this, so not problems there!

I have tickets to see Ovie in DC on Nov 7th and LA in on Jan 2. Trying to make it to San Jose game on December 30th. I will video my quest and hope to see the man himself. I will post items of interest along the way. Thanks for accompanying me on this journey!

On a side note, I will try to post as many pics as possible. As for the blog's appearance, well, I am not a web page wizard, so please bear with me..Thanks!

Also if you see any of your pics on here and want credit, please let me know!!!!!!

Who am I

I am a 37 year old mother of two boys 13 and 9, I have been married to my husband for 14 years.

I could give you an long and drawn out background on my life, but that is not the purpose of this blog. I will how ever give you 10 facts about me and leave it at that.

1) I hate flying, I am really afraid of the plane crashing, nothing more!

2) I would like to at some point pursue a Masters degree in Art History.

3) I briefly worked as an intern for Laker guard Sasha Vujacic. It was fun while it lasted!

4) I enjoy making beaded bracelets, Sasha is one of my "customers"

5) I try to see my cousin in Florida every 2 years, we are very close.

6) I am very impatient

7) I suffer from a mystery illness that affects my cerebellum (possibly MS). I am perfectly normal, but it causes me severe head aches, back pain, and heat intolerance.

8) I dont see my parents very often despite living close to them, but I make sure to talk to them everyday!

9) I have seen every major L.A. team live.

10) I believe that life is what you make it and I try to make it as interesting as possible!

There you have it! On with the show!
