So I went to DC in my quest to see Ovie play, as we all know an "upper body" injury on Nov. 1 squashed that for me, but I had a great time none the less!
I went to DC with a hint of sadness thinking that all the energy would be sucked out of the Verizon Center due to Ovie's absence. I predicted a lethargic, lack luster game, but I was so wrong!
The evening started off with a Caps pub crawl. Seven bars in around the Verizon Center participated and we were able to hit two of them, The Green Turtle and Louie's. My husband proudly wore his Kings jersey, I was some what worried that he would be hasseled, but was I wrong! No one batted an eye lash, each bar was a sea of red. You dont see that too often at Kings games!!!
The Caps game itself was exciting from beginning to end. The fans were more than happy to see us there and thanked us for coming down to support the team. The couple sitting next me and I chatted like old friends and the guy that sat behind us turned out to be a Dodgers fan! Small world! The best part? I spotted Ovie sitting in the press box with Mike Green (who was also nursing an "upper body' injury)! Ovie looked bored out of his mind! He was wearing a pink dress shirt, and silver pants. He kept taking sips from his soda. He was in the press box until after the second intermission then disappeared!
The crowd really got into the game, more so than at a Kings game, every goal was a celebration and the fans loved it! Perrault scored his first NHL goal ever and the fans went nuts!!!! The final score was 7-4 against the Panthers..I got some great game pics, but unfortunately my camera was either lost or stolen upon my return at LAX!
Ovie is really well loved in DC. Everyone we talked to had only nice things to say about him. My husband's friend, a chef for a Georgetown restaraunt, said that he lives in Ovie's neighborhood and see's him all the time at local bars. Said he was a real nice down to earth guy. His co-worker stated that he is always will to sign autographs and pose for pics after practice (no Caps practices when I was there :( ). Some one else asked me after the game what I liked about Ovie, and I stated that it was his passion, enthusiasm, how he basically has a great time out there! She said that DC is very lucky to have him! Another person said "What's not to love?"
Ovie is not expected to play for at least another week, they are predicting that he will return Nov. 17th against the Rangers. Of course, he would like to comeback sooner, but why rush?
In Kopi news, he is still the top scorer in the NHL with 30 points! Ovie, despite not playing the last four games is still behind him with 23.
